Analysis of Chlorpropham in fresh produce and swab samples

It is important for growers to analyze potatoes for Chlorpropham. In the course of this year, the European Commission will announce a temporary MRL for Chlorpropham in potatoes. Until the moment of publication of the new MRL, the existing MRL (10 mg / kg) remains in force.

Since this year it is not allowed to use Chlorpropham anymore. The European Food Safety Authority (EFSA) will advise the European Commission on the temporary MRL value. In her advice, EFSA takes into account cross-contamination of potatoes in storage sheds in which Chlorpropham was previously used.

There is still a significant chance that low concentrations of Chlorpropham are measured in potato samples stored in sheds where Chlorpropham was used in the past. If your products do not contain Chlorpropham, this could mean that adjustments to the storage shed are not necessary.

Would you like to check your product for Chlorpropham? Groen Agro Control is an accredited (NEN-EN-ISO 17025) laboratory. Our GC-MSMS analysis method is accredited for potatoes, vegetables and fruit. The analysis of the Chlorpropham component is further accredited in the fresh produce samples. It is also possible to sample surfaces in the storage sheds with swabs or tissues and check these for Chlorpropham residues. For questions, please contact product manager Joke de Geus.
